Solidarity Social
Solidarity Social is a hub within the Bluesky social network -- i.e. it is a group of Bluesky users who want to be part of conversations about building solidarity and organizing action for progress on social justice, human rights, human dignity, and democracy.
This hub is defined by the ATPROTO handles (i.e. the users) that have migrated their repository to a PDS operated by the Solidar Network, and thereby can login to the Solidar App. The Solidar App is a modified version of the Bluesky App, supporting End to End Encrypted Direct Messaging (E2EE DM).
The E2EE DM capability is built into the Solidar App by integrating the Matrix messaging protocol. Users can access their E2EE DMs in the Solidar App and also via Matrix clients for collaboration such as Element (an app similar to Slack or Teams), versions of which are in use by many governments.
This hybrid of public social networking and private collaboration is a great technology foundation for organizers in the Solidarity Social hub.
Solidar Network
The Solidar Network is the ATPROTO network operator that developed and maintains the Solidar App and other services that Solidarity Social needs.
Today, the Solidar Network is the steward of the Solidarity Social hub. The Solidar Network will work with the ATPROTO network operator community, licensing its technology if needed, to enable users hosted by other operators to be part of the Solidarity Social hub. Stewardship of Solidarity Social will then be expanded to include other stakeholders.
